How do you search for people and their email on the net without needing a credit card?

I need to find my long lost brother and other people and find out any info or better their email addresses on the internet, but I don't have a credit card and I don't want to spend $ to be able to do it. Where do I search, what do I say in my searches with little more than a name and a state where they may have been at one time at most on these people?
